Looking for things to do in Orlando during MRO Americas 2017 that don’t involve Disney or Universal? Look no further! We compiled this guide of activities that are memorable and wallet friendly. The majority of the locations are close to the Orange County Convention Center and open until at least 8pm, so you have time to head over after the show.
This is a must see for space aficionados and people interested in the history and science behind space travel. The Rocket Garden provides opportunities to sit in a rocket to get a sense of the size. The whole experience is excellent with the Atlantis exhibit being the highlight. If you need more time, upgrade to the multi day ticket which is good for one year.
Looking for a free, outdoor activity? Head over to Big Tree Park. The park has hike & bike trails, a picnic area, and a playground. Don’t miss the observation decks and floodplain forest boardwalk. The main feature of the park is a 2,000 year old tree “Lady Liberty”. The park is open from 8am – sunset each day, parking and admission are free.
Gatorland is an affordable, memorable break from expensive attractions in Orlando proper. The 110-acre preserve is full of alligators, crocodiles, snakes, toads, turtles, and 20 species of birds. The Gator Night Shine Adventure allows visitors to tour the park after hours and feed the alligators. Looking for a good view of the property and animals, try the 1,200 foot high Screamin’ Gator Zip Line.
Looking for a stress free night after a long convention, head over to SAKS Comedy Club. Wayne Brady began his comedy career at this very location! The actors are interactive with the audience, and no matter where you sit, you can be involved. Shows are about 90 minutes long with an intermission and drink prices are reasonable.
When stopping in to Orlando Brewing, you will find fair prices, an excellent atmosphere, large selection of beers, and friendly staff. There are over 20 beers on tap and samples are free. All beer is 100% USDA organic. Don’t miss the free brewery tour offered Mon – Sat at 6pm.
If you are ready for an adrenaline rush, check out Zombie Outbreak. It is similar to a game of laser tag with zombies on the loose. Game play statistics are given to each player at the end of the round. The course lasts between 10 – 20 minutes. The arena is open until 10pm weeknights. Pricing starts at $25.
To save money on each activity, try to book ahead. Make sure to bring your MRO Americas 2017 pass to see if you can get a discount during the week of the show.
