ASQ and CCT Certification

The adoption of IIoT and data-driven maintenance techniques have revolutionized equipment handling and high-quality maintenance standards, ensuring the demand for calibration services and precision measurements. According to independent studies, the global calibration services market will reach $7.4 billion by 2022, with steady year-on-year capital growth. Increased quality awareness and strict government regulations are the key factors driving the change. However, high competition amongst calibration technicians and the lack of credible skills limit the calibration services’ market growth.

Certified Calibration Technicians (CCTs):

Industries globally are looking for Certified Calibration Technicians (CCTs) as critical assets to build processes that reduce the risk associated with measurement (such as form, fit, and function), regulatory requirements, and international standardization. Certified CCTs also establish accurate testing and measurement procedures, maintain and repair various measurement and test equipment, and ensure these devices are calibrated correctly in conformance to established standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 or other industry-specific standards.

CCT Certificate – Why is it essential:

The benefits of a CCT certificate are two-fold: Organizational and Individual. Organizational benefits are as follows:

In addition to the organization’s benefits, a Calibration technician also benefits from a CCT certificate. Although CCT certification is not mandatory for an entry-level job in calibration, it can be of significant importance for those looking to advance in their careers. Following are few benefits for the CCT Certified technician:

CCT Certification Procedure:

The American Society for Quality (ASQ), formerly the American Society for Quality Control (ASQC), is a globally recognized organization, often regarded as the gold standard in professional quality certification, provides CCT certification to qualified candidates.

The society consists of nearly 80,000 certified professionals, with an international presence in more than 140 countries. ASQ certifications are globally recognized and endorsed by more than 125 companies for their reliability, integrity, and adherence to ISO 17024 Standards. The CCT Certification from ASQ thus demonstrates individuals are on top of expertise and are abreast with policy updates, regulations, industry norms, and standards.

An ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) is authorized to test, calibrate, maintain, and repair electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, analytical, and electronic measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment for conformance to established standards.

Prerequisites for ASQ – CCT Certificate:

CCT Assessment: The CCT examination is a one-part, multiple-choice 135-question exam offered in English. Of the 135 questions, one hundred twenty-five (125) questions are scored, and ten (10) are unscored. The total assessment time is four-and-a-half hours.

Specific training programs are available from some vocational schools or online classes that review the certification’s body of knowledge and can prepare the technician for the test. The topics for the assessment are provided in the ASQ brochure. Many programs include practice tests to become familiar with the types of questions that are asked and the testing process. After successful CCT assessment, the ASQ Certificate is carried to the communication address of the technician in 15 days.
