TTR CALIBRATION FREQUENCY AND BENEFITS

TTR CALIBRATION FREQUENCY AND BENEFITS

A transformer turns ratio test set (TTR) is an instrument used to confirm ratio accuracy of a transformer. This test ensures the correct ratio of both primary turns and secondary turns. Because proper functionality of TRR is essential to determine the correct ratio of the two, frequent calibration of a TTR is crucial to ensure proper ratio measurements.

THREE BENEFITS OF TTR CALIBRATION

The accuracy and reliability of TTR is vital. This is because when working with electricity and high voltages, a TTR’s precision is necessary to ensure that it is properly functioning. In order to assure the functionality of a TTR is up to par, TTR calibration should be performed regularly. TTR’s that are calibrated regularity are known to obtain the following benefits:

ACCURACY

The calibration of a TTR help to minimize measurement uncertainties. During TTR calibration, uncertainties within the ratio measurement are calculated to determine an acceptable margin of error.

RELIABILITY

TTR’s that are calibrated regular are guaranteed to be more reliable than TTR’s that are not. This is because TTR calibration ensures that all measurements are where they need to be.

SUSTAINABILITY

TTR’s that are properly cared for and calibrated regularly are said to have a longer life-span.

TTR CALIBRATION FREQUENCY

A TTR should be calibrated regularly to ensure it is accurate and reliable. Many TTR’s will have a manufacturer’s recommendation on the appropriate calibration interval. Although following this interval could be beneficial, it is important to note a TTR should also be calibrated in the following scenarios:

  • If the TTR is new.
  • If the TTR has experienced any trauma, such as mechanical and electrical shock
  • If the TTR usage is heavy

Notably, creating a personalized TTR calibration interval is highly recommended. Every TTR is used differently. It is for this reason, a TTR should be scheduled to be calibrated either annually, quarterly or monthly depending on its usage.
